Atherton Bikes Launches the S.200: The Aluminium Downhill Bike You’ve Always Dreamed Of

Atherton Bikes (United Kingdom) - Atherton Bikes has just launched the S.200, an aluminium downhill bike that promises to impress both in competitions and bike parks. With prices starting at £4,999 (or €4,980.73 in Europe), the S.200 combines the brand's legacy with the latest technology, offering a unique riding experience for cyclists of all levels.

Inspired by the Atherton family's experience in the downhill world circuit, the S.200 features an aluminium construction (patent pending) and the DW4 suspension platform, developed by Dave Weagle and tested at the World Cup. The robust, low-maintenance design of the suspension maintains the essence of the S-Series, ideal for those looking for an easy-to-transport bike with the spirit of "throw it in the van and head out on an adventure."

Gee Atherton, who recently impressed at the Red Bull Hardline, highlighted the S.200's performance: "I was absolutely blown away by how the S.200 handled the Red Bull Hardline course and the confidence it gave me. Knowing how strong the bike is allowed me to be really bold. I felt it was a very versatile bike, able to keep up with the winning pace, but it’s probably my new favourite bike for the park too."

The S.200, with 200mm of travel front and rear, features a mixed wheel setup and is available in 12 standard sizes. The combination of Atherton's "perfect-fit" sizing with the DW4 suspension platform and the special attention to the bike's rear triangle ensures a dynamic and reliable ride from the first moment. The bike is designed to excel both on downhill tracks and on jumps and berms in bike parks.

Made in Machynlleth, Wales, the S.200 is constructed from 7075 aluminium, known for its strength and durability, outperforming other aluminium alternatives (like 6061) by 70% in fatigue performance and tensile strength. Thanks to the bonding process instead of welding, the S.200 frame presents an impressive level of strength, offering cyclists a lifetime warranty for peace of mind.

Ben Lovell, Chief Technician at Atherton, who also participated in the testing, said: "If I were spending my own money on a bike, this would be my choice. The S.200 is amazing in the park, but it also carries the Atherton race pedigree, allowing me to compete at the highest level. It’s definitely a bike that turns heads in all the best ways."

With an innovative design and proven performance, the S.200 is the downhill bike every cyclist dreams of owning. Available now on the Atherton Bikes e-commerce site, it promises to transform the riding experience and take athletes to new levels of performance.
