The Evolution:

At Orange, we never stand still. Every iteration sees an evolution of frame performance and technical features.

The new 2022 Phase frames see a raft of new features, tweaks and changes. The most obvious is the re-layout of the front end, which integrates the Shimano EP8 motor more elegantly into the downtube and houses the integral battery unit.

The rear swingarm construction has seen some modifications as well as a couple of details such as relocating the Shimano EP8’s wheel speed sensor into the disc rotor. The rear mech is now attached using the Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) design which is far easier to source when replacements are needed and has the ability to 're-rail' the chain back onto the small cog.

Recent work on the new Alpine 6 saw the team make huge improvements to the suspension characteristics, which were carried across to the new Phase models.

We're now using a metric rear shock (230x65) and have increased travel from 160 to 165mm. We have also focussed on increasing the amount of progression in the system, reducing the bike's anti-squat value and decreasing the amount of pedal kickback.

The battery is now removable using just a 4mm Allen key, so no more bolts to undo or keys to lose and it takes just a matter of seconds to drop out a battery. Second batteries are available from Orange and will come with the protective cover as standard.

Last but not least, is that new Shimano EP8 motor. Slimmer, sleeker and more compact than its predecessor. Quieter than ever. The lightest full-power system, weighing in at just 2.6kg and with a 36% reduction in drag. Ep8 is an improvement in every way, making what we considered the best even better.
