Job Offer By Melon Optics - Events Supervisor UK

Melon Optics (United Kingdom) - If you're someone who loves to get stuck in and loves the idea being the face of the Melon brand on the ground then we have a role that might just be for you, read on.

Who are we?

We’re Melon and our mission is simple: "create sick products and sick vibes to inspire the pursuit of a life less ordinary".

We focus on making next level active eyewear for those who love to ride and embrace the outdoors, letting the good times roll whilst we do it. We bring our customers along for the journey, sharing our ups and downs, asking for input on product development and by creating fun, relatable content.

We’re a globally distributed team with hubs in the UK, Bali, Austria, and Portugal.

What’s it like to work for us?

We're young, small, dynamic and our “Sick Vibes” motto runs through everything we do. We’re passionate about our vision and for many of us, the lines between work and play often merge.

We try to give you as much freedom as possible. We know that the best work doesn't always happen in front of a screen, so base success on "impactful" work rather than only hours spent in the office. In return we expect everyone to be the best team-mate they can and be "all in" on our mission.

What’s the work like?

You'll be responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and delivering our on site brand experience at events. From managing logistics, to building up stands, to testing and selling Melon products to excited fans. The role demands a reliable and trust worthy individual with slick organisation and top level communication skills.

Hours may be long, the weather might be crap, and you may be required to camp on site during many of the events, so you'll need to be able to take these in your stride and stay positive, energetic, and genuinely enjoy your work.

An idea of what the work for an event may include:

  • Coordinating van hire and collection/drop off of events equipment and stock in advance and after of the event.
  • Liaising with events organisers to understand load in times, health and safety requirements, and any other pre event requirements.
  • Driving up to 250 miles to attend some events on a Friday
  • Setting up stand with safe lifting techniques inline with on site health and safety requirements.
  • Running a test centre so riders can experience Melon's awesome eyewear for themselves.
  • Ensuring data capture at events is completed for all testers.
  • Building and selling our quality custom eyewear to customers specifications.
  • Taking credit card and cash payments.
  • Managing the security and condition of all stock and events equipment.
  • Supervising other events staff.
  • Being available to work Friday - Sunday.

Sounds awesome! What skills do I need?

We're looking for someone that is energetic, ready to get their hands dirty with whatever needs doing, and can take the lead on delivering our events strategy to the highest standard.

We aren't necessarily looking for any qualifications, but experience of working at events will be beneficial and you'll need to have a thorough understanding of the MTB scene as well as a passion for our product.

Requirements:

You can drive vans - You'll need to hold a full UK driving license and be a damn fine pilot behind the wheel of a van with respect for the rules of the road as well as on site event rules.

You're available at weekends - Most of the events we're attending from grass roots through to major events such as the Fort William World Cup, will take place at weekends so you'll need to be available for a high proportion of weekends between March and September.

You're reliable - You'll be in charge of high value stock and equipment so you'll need to show you can be trusted with this. You'll also become the face of our brand so you'll need to understand that every interaction you have with anyone during the event reflects on Melon - be rad, be honest, and be damn nice.

You're organised - You'll need to always be one step ahead so that every event is planned in with meticulous detail and nothing is missed. You'll need to be happy using Google drive and apps to help in organisation.

You're happy to get physical - You'll be loading events equipment and stock in and out at events as well as setting up our stand. It's not exhausting work, but it requires someone who doesn't mind flexing a bit of muscle.

You're a great communicator - You'll be actively engaging all kinds of people at events, from different types of riders to different ages, you'll need to know how to best converse with all these people and give them a memorable Melon experience - a big friendly smile is a must. You'll also be reporting back to Melon Management with a rundown of each event.

You get things done - This role comes with a lot of responsibility and freedom. Whilst we will be there to help guide you and integrate you into our team, your direct manager won’t be face to face too often, so you will need to be proactive, good at managing your own time and make sure what needs to get done, gets done.

You’re driven - You'll be targeted with product testing numbers and sales revenue so you'll need to be hyped to hit them. Melon is growing fast and we want to bring those with the right drive and stoke along for the ride, the role needs someone who can kick themself up the ass to create their very best work for the success of the business.

You share our values - Whilst we won’t always agree on everything, we do want the right person for the job to share our values. The way we do business is far from traditional and we want to make sure that you’ll fit in the right way with the team.

Final words…

We are looking for people who are open to a different way of life. We want someone who is hungry and is prepared to put a lot of time and effort into growing Melon into the best brand it can be. We work hard (really hard) and you’ll need to show a lot of initiative to make an impact. The flipside is that we play hard too and working with us will probably be unlike any other company that you have worked for.

Want in?

We're making the application really simple. All you need to do is upload a quick video, share your CV, and answer a couple of questions. Sound good?
