New Santafixie Born 2021

New Santafixie Born 2021

Santafixie (Spain) - Press Release: Even though it seems like an eternity, it was only two years ago that we launched our second urban fixie bike model, the Santafixie Born. It’s an urban bike inspired by the Barcelona Born sector, inside the Ciutat Vella (Old Town) district. There you can find historic buildings such as the Santa Maria del Mar church, the recently restyled Born Centre Cultural and one of the city’s green spaces – the Ciutadella park. History permeates its streets and can be felt while sitting at a café or restaurant table, and while strolling around its streets. It’s a historic yet very vibrant neighbourhood.

With this idea in mind was that we designed the Santafixie Born two years ago. A bike that combines a classic-looking steel frameset with the geometry of a modern urban bike and with modern components. It was warmly welcomed and it got sold out in just a few months.

At Santafixie we’re always tuned to what happens around us, and for some time we’ve been observing a trend that’s becoming more and more popular in the fixie world: competing on dirt tracks with fixed-gear bikes equipped with gravel tyres, a new modality called Tracklocross. Races can consists of one or several laps, and are very demanding. Dirt, pebbles, rocks, branches and jumps, combined with a brakeless, fixed-gear bike. That’s why having gravel tyres is essential, as they are wider than urban or road ones and feature a deeper tread which improves their grip. The only condition for a fixie bike to be equipped with such tyres is enough tyre clearance.

When we started to design the new version of the Santafixie Born some months ago, we knew one thing for sure – it should be a bike perfect for Tracklocross races. And we did it. It has a higher bottom bracket and a short top tube, as the first version of the Born did, and this makes the Born a comfortable bike to ride, ideal to dodge rocks and tree trunks, and to jump along the track. The main change made from the first version is a wider tyre clearance. You can install gravel and cyclocross tyres, up to 700x34C. This change in the Santafixie Born’s frame geometry allowed us to launch two different models that Santafixers can choose depending on their taste and needs.

Firstly, there’s the Santafixie Born Urban, available in 3 finishes (Blackout, Red Garnet and Racing Green) and 3 sizes (52, 55 and 58). It’s a more urban version, with Chaoyang Mini-Shark 700×28 tyres, two handlebar options (riser and dropbar), a 46×16 gear setup and an Essax Maigmo Evo saddle.
