Team DSM (Poland) - Press Release: Stage five at the Tour de Pologne saw Team DSM’s Nikias Arndt sprint prowess score an incredible victory after a bike throw to the line.
The testing 172 kilometre long route featured the now traditional finish circuits in Bielsko-Biała, which have seen a whole variety of rider types have win in the past. With a clear goal in mind, Team DSM took control of the peloton, working together well and covering any early dangerous moves, until a five rider breakaway eventually forged clear and the team’s riders settled into the peloton.
With the kilometres ticking by, Jai Hindley and Nikias Arndt were well protected by the rest of the team as the final climb and finishing circuits grew nearer. The breakaway reduced in size over the ascent but they put up a brave fight, resulting in a high pace on the final laps and a strung out peloton. After some brilliant positioning work by the team, Hindley and Arndt were well to the fore, with Max Kanter doing one strong final turn to keep Arndt in fifth wheel as the steady climb to the line started.
Being at the front, Arndt managed to stay out of trouble on what was a nervous and hectic finish with several crashes in the bunch, one of which unfortunately held up Hindley who was a few more wheels behind. As the finish line approached, Arndt used all of his experience and guile, biding his time and choosing the perfect moment to launch his trademark seated sprint, taking a superb stage win for Team DSM on the bike throw to the line.
