De Marchi (Italy) - 1975 marks a fundamental step in Pinarello’s history as a relatively young and unknown gregario named Fausto Bertoglio wins the 58th edition of the Giro d’Italia beating favourite Gianbattista Baronchelli and bringing the first grand tour victory to the Treviso-based frame-builder.
In a year without Merckx, sick and Moser who skipped the Giro to concentrate on the Tour de France, the natural favourite was Baronchelli who finished second after Merckx in 1974 for a mere 14”. Other potential winners were Giovanni Battaglin, Roger DeVlaemink, Vladimiro Panizza and the evergreen Felice Gimondi but Bertoglio surprised the crownd in an epic chrono stage at Ciocco, Tuscany, and took the pink jersey to the Stelvio pass where he got his firt pro win on June 7th, 1975.
A few days later, to celebrate this epic win, Giovanni Pinarello asked De Marchi to make a special blue jersey to reflect Italy’s national team colors: this is the first Pinarello jersey ever made and will soon become one of the most popular cycling design.
Today, after 45 years from Bertoglio’s victory De Marchi is bringing back to life an exact reissue of the original 1975 Pinarello jersey, rigorously made in Italy from 100% superfine Merino on old-school machines, featuring the same long and slim fit as back in the day. It is reccomended to choose a size bigger than conventional De Marchi jerseys.
Individually signed and certified for authenticity by Fausto Pinarello and limited to 150 pieces, the Pinarello 1975 reissue jersey is now available on De Marchi's website.
