Wanty-Groupe Gobert (France) - Tom Devriendt has extended his contract with Wanty-Groupe Gobert for two years. The Belgian won the Omloop van het Houtland in 2017 and finished on the podium in Binche-Chimay-Binche.
This year he showed himself as a classic rider in the Tour of Flanders, where he finished 30th. He also finished third in the second stage of the Rhône-Alpes Isère Tour. Devriendt joined our pro-continental formation in 2015, now he will definitely stay until the end of 2020.
Tom Devriendt:
"The team soon already made clear that they wanted to extend my contract, which is a nice sign of confidence. I showed myself in the spring classics, and I have also grown as a trusted rider in the train for Timothy Dupont. Next year I want to profile myself even more in the spring classics. My performance in the Tour of Flanders gave me hope. I am not made to be a leader. But in a free role I can perform strongly in certain classics."
"The team knows that they can count on me. I may not be the most consistent rider, but in the races where they count on me, I will stand ready to support the team. I am also a mood maker and I feel very good in the team. The contract extension of Xandro Meurisse was also very important to me. We are best friends for a long time and I get energy boosts from guys like him."
"I have been struggling with my knee over the past few weeks, that is why I had to abandon in Tour of Austria. I hope that these problems are now gone. I still aim to perform over the next weeks, like last year. First I go to the Tour of Denmark, where I will support Xandro Meurisse."
