CeramicSpeed (Denmark) - Press Release: Driven: a revolutionary drivetrain concept that sets new standards in efficiency and eliminates the need for derailleurs and chains.
The world's most efficient drivetrain:
Our objective was clear; to design the most efficient drivetrain imaginable. Partnering with the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Colorado, we have created a drive shaft concept that utilises 21 CeramicSpeed Bearings and sets a new benchmark as the world’s most efficient drivetrain.
Driven creates 49% less friction when compared to the market leading chain and derailleur drivetrain. A traditional chain and derailleur drivetrain contains eight points of sliding friction, which is generated from the articulation of the chain at these points. Driven impressively eliminates all eight points of sliding friction.
To achieve the ultimate performance, Driven uses CeramicSpeed bearings in a pinion style drive shaft system. In total, 21 bearings play a crucial role in the functionality and efficiency. Thanks to extremely low rolling friction and longevity, the bearings transfer torque from the front ring through the drive shaft, then onto the 13-speed rear cog.
The Future is Driven:
Advancements in drivetrain technology have been evolutionary since the 1920’s. Driven continues the evolution, and paves the way for innovative drivetrain design by challenging convention with the potential to revolutionise the industry.
Eurobike Award Winner 2018:
Driven has been awarded The Eurobike Award, one of the most recognised design awards in the bike industry. 366 entries were assessed and evaluated by an independent panel of expert judges.
