Pinarello (Italy) - Press Release: Designed for Filippo Ganna UCI Hour Record attempt.
The first high performance 3D printed bike:
All cyclists want to ride the best bike available, especially when it comes to aerodynamic performance and power transmission.
However, for this unique project, the demands are even higher than usual.
Discover which technologies have been used by our engineers to develop a one-of-a-kind product.
Custom 3D printed frame:
Metal 3D printing was first pioneered in cycling by Pinarello at world-class level in 2015, when the handlebar for the UCI Hour Record timed by Tissot bike for Bradley Wiggins was raced to a record distance.
Airstream technology:
The aerodynamic flow behind the peaks stays attached to the frame. This has been made possible by studying humpback whales, which are able to perform very tight manoeuvres in the oceans.
Airfoil Selection:
The new frame has been designed to reduce as muchof the frontal area as possible by taking advantage of the removal of the "3:1" UCI rule. This allows for longer and slimmer airfoil sections to be used.
